More passengers may be given free shuttle from Johor to Changi Airport soon as talks about partnership begin between bus company Transtar and other airline companies, according to CAG Spokesperson Ivan Tan. This plan for collaboration is seen to benefit bigger number of travelers coming from downtown Johor.
At the moment, only passengers of Tiger Airways are given free rides to the airport because of a partnership signed on September 2010. This has been the ultimate move of Transtar, Changi Airport Group (CAG), and the said airline company to appeal to the Malaysian market. Buses depart from Johor at least fifteen times a day so it was totally a relief. Travelers need not to rush themselves when going to the airport as there are sufficient transfers arranged for them. The bus route shall pass through Malaysian and Singapore immigrations and it also includes stops at Marsiling, Woodlands, Seletar and Pungol. Trips could take one to two hours, depending on various factors.
Non-Tiger Airways passengers may also ride the shuttle service. However, they will be charged SG$7 for a one-way trip. The price is not as hefty but it will still be a great treat for the people if they would no longer have to pay, of course. Transtar is talking to major and budget airline companies. Positive results are expected.
Certain details of the collaboration are still in review, like the bus timetables, more stops and other assurances of reliability. According to Tiger Airways Group Chief Executive Koay Peng Yen, this scheme also aims to improve their service as a company. Such can be applied by other airline companies to agree with this market expansion; and so it can be claimed that this move will also be of great advantage to their records.
Free shuttle service is not the lone service where CAG teams up with airline companies for the passengers. Tan had mentioned the transit program partnered by Singapore Airlines and Silk Air. In this collaboration, passengers of the carriers traveling or transiting to Changi Airport will be given SG$40 voucher which they can use on shopping and dining establishments within the airport.
